After having an old switch for 15 years it was time to upgrade my network. Being an IT professional, I was looking for the slightly more professional products and decided to tackle my entire network in one go. 2 unifi switches (16 ports and 8 ports (150 watt poe) and an AC-AP-PRO.
After first having a controller on my PC, I saw the advantage of a 24/24h solution.
A cloudkey brought a perfect solution here. Plug in, change IP, transfer backup from old controller and it was up and running within 30 minutes.
After the network (which is noticeably better, especially Wi-Fi) it was time for some cameras. A unifi G3 was immediately recognized and paired.
The android apps for network and video also worked from the first time and without a hitch.
A small downside is that unifi Protect (the video recorder) is a new product and is still under development. This is the successor of Unifi Video but does not yet have all the features that Video already has. However, new ones are regularly added and protect works stable in the current version. Protect will also be the successor to Video and video will only get bug fixes.
Another downside is that there are no mounting options, it is currently loose around my 19" rack switch. A rack enclosure has been announced.
A final plus is that with a free Ubiquiti account you get cloud access on your cloudkey and via the internet you can access your network and video controllers from anywhere (without having to set port forwards and the like in your router).
This option is optional, the cloudkey can also be used completely offline.
