Canon RF-S 10-18mm f/4.5-6.3 IS STM

I was able to test the lens for a few weeks and used it primarily for nature photography in the Amazon and for urban photography. The lens is very handy; for storage, you can slide it into a sort of storage position, making it fit perfectly in my camera bag. It feels solid, but obviously not weatherproof. On my R7 with an APS-C sensor, it takes beautiful, wide-angle images and the lens is sharp. Only in very close-up photos (portrait), there can sometimes be some subtle distortions when the subject is very close. I didn't find this particularly bothersome, as I don't use it for portraits.

The autofocus is fast and quiet, which makes it ideal for videography in my case.

All in all, very satisfied with a lens in this price range!

I borrowed the lens to test it on my Canon R7 during a trip through the Amazon, mountains, and cities. After extensive use, I'm surprised by its performance.

The sharpness is remarkably good for such a small lens. While the limited aperture is a logical concession for such a compact lens and price range, I didn't find it a major limitation. Only a single slight distortion occurred during a close-up portrait; otherwise, the lens delivered sharp images. Any distortion is also corrected in-camera, provided the software is up-to-date.

The quality feels solid, despite the plastic design. The storage position is a major plus; fully retracted, the lens takes up very little space, ideal for travel. The autofocus is fast and virtually silent, and combined with the R7's image stabilization, it delivers stable, smooth videos, even handheld.

In short: a surprisingly versatile, lightweight, and sharp wide-angle lens that's perfect for travel photography, landscapes, and vlogs.
