Philips 5000 Series STH5020/40

I had been thinking about buying a hand steamer for a long time. Now that I was allowed to test this hand steamer from Philips, I could try it out myself before buying one myself. The beautifully designed hand steamer, weighing less than 1 kilogram, is comfortable to hold. I found the cord a bit stiff, but it will probably become more flexible during use. The steamer and the handle can be adjusted. The steamer has a tilting head. Handy if you want to approach your clothes from a different angle. A protective glove is included for use while steaming. The water reservoir is easy to remove. I found the filling hole for the water a bit small. But it works fine. The idea is to use half demineralised water. To prevent limescale. This way the hand steamer will last much longer. Fortunately, you can simply buy demineralised water at the supermarket. Furthermore, a child can really do the laundry. You put the plug in the socket and turn on the hand steamer. (on eco or on the max setting). For the heavier creases I chose the max setting. And for all my other clothes the eco setting was sufficient. The hand steamer is ready to use within one minute. By pressing the steam button in the handle, you can easily iron all the creases out of the clothes and steam them nice and fresh again. The hand steamer is so easy to use that I immediately thought, why didn't I try this before. Handy, fast and simple. Easy to take with you and doesn't take up much space. What I didn't like that much is that it still needs a long cooling period. So when you want to quickly put everything away again, it takes half an hour to an hour before you can pack it up and store it again. Nice and not entirely unimportant for me: 50% of the plastic used is fully recycled. For me a good replacement for my current iron and board. And for quickly removing some creases that you notice before you want to leave the house. If you really always have a lot of clean ironing laundry, then it might be handy to keep the old bolt and board on. Then you can alternate. In any case, I am very surprised by this hand steamer, in terms of use and also in terms of results.

I am one of the lucky ones who gets to test this device, and I am very satisfied. It is a sturdy and handy device that comes in a neat box. The device is packed in a steam glove, which is very handy. This ensures that the device arrives intact and that you can safely steam your clothes. Please note: the glove does not hold all the steam, which can cause your hand to become warm when steaming thin fabrics or on maximum setting. I received the red/pink version, including a pink glove. The water reservoir is large enough to completely steam a denim blouse. To release the reservoir, pull it down and it simply clicks back up. This was the only thing I had to consult the manual for. The reservoir is very easy to fill and empty. The device is ready to use within 30 seconds. It has two settings, which is sufficient. I used the Eco setting for delicate fabrics and this gave excellent results. I even steamed a table runner, which was of dubious quality. All deep creases were gone and the runner looked like new. I used the maximum setting for a denim blouse. Curled edges, such as the bottom of a blouse, are no match for this steamer. They are straight again in no time! Deep creases require a bit more attention, but this also goes better than expected. Steaming a suit also goes well. I was even able to safely remove small stains with it and steam the collar. This does require some skill and caution, otherwise the collar stands upright. However, this says more about my skills than about the device itself! The end of the steamer can bend, and I have always used the device in a bent position, which works perfectly. All in all, this is a no-nonsense steamer that does what it promises.

The Philips hand steamer is easy to use, even without reading the instructions, the device is self-explanatory. The cheerful colours and compactness form a beautiful design. It is also easy to take with you when travelling. You do not need an ironing board and it heats up quickly, so it is very efficient. The result is fine, provided your clothes are not too wrinkled.
