I've been using the Philips Baristina Plus BAR500/00 Stainless Steel for a few weeks now and I think it's a great coffee machine. It's sturdy, makes delicious espressos, and looks sleek on my countertop. It's just a shame I can't make a milk-based specialty.
Easily add beans
I don't want too much hassle in the morning. This machine's bean hopper is easy to refill without spilling. The opening is wide, and the lid closes securely, keeping the beans fresh. The machine grinds them immediately for every cup, so I always taste fresh coffee. That really makes the difference compared to pre-ground coffee.
Automatic tamper
I no longer have to press the coffee myself. The automatic tamper does it with just the right amount of force. That saves time and mess. I just press the button, push the filter holder to the right, and the machine does the rest. I've found that my espressos always taste the same because of this. Where I used to sometimes have weak coffee, it's now perfect every time.
Also makes iced coffee
I love drinking iced coffee in the summer. This piston coffee maker can do that too. I press the iced coffee button, add ice to my glass, and the machine does the rest. The machine automatically adjusts the strength so the flavor isn't too watery. You can't make cappuccino or latte macchiato, though. You need a separate milk frother for those.
Sturdy machine
The machine feels really sturdy. Nothing creaks or moves, even when I fill the water tank or tighten the portafilter. The stainless steel material means I don't have to worry about dents or scratches when cleaning the machine. That gives me confidence that it will last a long time.
Beautiful design
I find the design sleek and timeless. The combination of stainless steel, the black accents, and the wooden handle of the portafilter fits well in my kitchen. It doesn't take up much space and looks professional, without being overly conspicuous.
