TP-Link Deco BE68

Finally super good (and stable) Wi-Fi after months of 'fiddling' with the internet provider's equipment. Easy installation with the Deco app.

Coming from a Netgear Orbi 763s 4-pack, which is certainly not a small one, I installed the Deco BE68 3-pack. For reasons unknown to me, the Netgear router became defective (bricked) after a reboot. I had installed a Netgear mesh router with 3 satellites across 3 floors and, with 1Gb Delta fiber, I didn't get higher than an average of 200-300Mb. I also spent a long time trying to get the Netgear network stable, but it was all rather disappointing.

Because I found a new set of Orbis a bit overkill, I decided to buy the Deco BE68 set. After ordering, the set arrived within a day. In the meantime, I put away the Orbis and thought about where I would place the Decos. Because it has one less satellite, I still had some doubts about whether the coverage would be sufficient. After starting the app and connecting the first Deco in the meter cupboard, the other 2 were connected and up and running within 10 minutes. Because I had given the network the same SSID (network name) with the same password as the Netgear, I soon heard one beep after another from devices logging onto the network.

Once everything was up and running and the Decos had completed an update, I performed some speed tests. Lo and behold, I had 739 Mbps download and 691 Mbps upload in our living room. With the Netgear Orbi, I usually achieved between 200-300 Mbps in the same spot. On the first floor, in all the bedrooms, I am getting the same speeds as in the living room, where I achieved between 100-200 with the Orbi. In the attic, we now have a speed of 434 Mbps download and 406 Mbps upload. The internal test of the TP-Link Deco app measures a speed of 939 Mbps download and 942 Mbps upload. If that isn't an improvement!!!

I performed all speed measurements wirelessly using Speedtest. The overall coverage throughout the entire house has improved, and we no longer have any dead spots.

Even though it is an investment, I am now happy that we have the Decos. Fortunately, I was able to make a family member happy with the still-working satellites.

The product is easy to install. No more separate 5GHz network. All bands are available on 1 SSID.

I bought 2 sets of 3 units. Now I have good Wi-Fi throughout the entire house, including the basement and attic, and extending far back into the garden. At first, the TV app on my phone stopped working. It turned out that this was because the system was behind an internet router and therefore didn't need to be its own router. I configured the system as Access Points and now everything works fine. By default, this setting is set to Router. Once everything was set up correctly, streaming TV also worked well. I set the SSID the same as the old system, and all devices connected again without problems and without having to reconfigure everything. The system does offer a separate IoT network, but you do have to set up all your devices again. For me, it works fine on 1 SSID for now.
