Anker eufy Doorbell S4 Wired + Chime 2

With the Anker eufy Doorbell S4, I can see every visitor. It automatically zooms in on people who come into view and films sharp images, but you do need a suitable transformer to use the doorbell.

Wired installation

I am connecting this doorbell via a wire. That is convenient, because it always has power. This way, I never have to take it off the wall to charge it myself. The installation does take a bit more time and effort than that of a wireless doorbell, because I have to work with wiring. Fortunately, it is quite manageable with the help of the Anker eufy app, which guides me through the connection step by step. The app does warn me that the doorbell only works with a 16 - 24V AC transformer. This transformer is not included in the box. I already had one at home, but if you don't have one yourself, you can purchase one at a hardware store. Also, the Anker eufy S4 is almost 17 centimeters tall, quite a bit larger than a standard doorbell. It is helpful to measure in advance whether it fits on your wall or door frame.

Everyone in view What immediately strikes me when I look at the footage is that the doorbell has a wide viewing angle. I can see most of my front garden at a glance. When someone walks by, the doorbell camera automatically zooms in and rotates with the movement. Little sharpness is lost when the doorbell zooms in, so I can still clearly see details like clothing and faces. I do set a zone so that the doorbell only registers movement in my garden, ensuring it doesn't film everyone walking on the sidewalk in front of my house. This doorbell works with and without HomeBase 3. I already have a HomeBase in the house, so I use that for image storage. Without HomeBase, you can save the footage on a separate micro SD card.

Extra sound notification The included Mini Chime makes a loud sound when someone presses the bell. This way, I receive 2 notifications when the doorbell rings: one via the app and an audible signal inside the house. This way, I hear the bell even when my smartphone is on silent. I choose the volume and ringtone via the Anker eufy app. I place the Chime in the hallway and turn the volume up slightly so that I also hear upstairs when the doorbell rings.

A very good improvement compared to its predecessor, the Eufy340. Do ensure you have a good 24V - 30VA (bell) transformer for the power supply. Ease of use is very nice!
