What size fridge fits in your home?

The most important thing when choosing a refrigerator is that you know where it will be placed. Make sure that the refrigerator fits in both the height, depth, and width. Also think about leaving room for ventilation.

Choose fridge

To know what fridge size you need, follow these steps:

  1. Determine where you want to place the fridge.
  2. Measure the width of the desired location.
  3. Measure the height.
  4. Measure the depth.
  5. Leave some extra space.
  6. Make sure that the door can open freely.
  7. Walk the path from the front door to the kitchen.

Step 1: determine where you want to place the fridge

The most important thing when you determine the size of the fridge is where you'll place it. If you have a smaller space between the counter and the wall, an American fridge won't fit.

Measure the width

Step 2: measure the width

Measure the width of the place where the fridge will be placed. Do you have a laminate or wooden floor? Keep the baseboard in mind and do not measure it. The fridge must be level and when it's on a baseboard this is not the case. Also keep a possible slanted wall in mind.

Measure the height

Step 3: measure the height

Measure the height of where you'll place the fridge. When there's nothing above the fridge, you can determine which height you like. Will you place the fridge underneath a kitchen cabinet? Make sure there's some extra space, so you can easily place the fridge underneath.

Measure the depth

Step 4: measure the depth

It looks best when the fridge is just as deep as the counter. Measure the baseboard to the front of the counter again. Make sure you keep the tape measure tight to prevent measuring wrong.

Leave space

Step 5: keep some space

As said before when you were measuring the height: leave some space. This applies to all sides of the fridge. At the back, it's also important to leave some space. That's where the ventilation is and the air has to flow to keep the fridge working well. We recommend 5 to 10cm distance at the back.

Turn the door freely

Step 6: make sure that the door can turn freely

It might not be something you think about when measuring, but keep in mind that you have to open the door. There's nothing more annoying than finding out after placing the fridge that the door bumps into the kitchen island. It's easy to calculate if you have enough space. The depth with the open door is the depth of the fridge + the width.

Walk the path fridge

Step 7: walk the path from the front door to the kitchen

It's not only important that the fridge fits in the kitchen, but also that it can be delivered. Does the fridge fit through your front door? When the fridge isn't placed on the ground floor, we recommend also measuring the stairwell. This way, you prevent surprises during the delivery.

Choose the right fridge

Step 8: choose a fridge that fits in your house

Our product filters are made to help you choose the right fridge. In the product filter, you can use filters to filter on height, width, and depth. Use this if you want to be sure that the fridge fits in your house.
