I had a small Samsung 60hz TN that was ten years old, which still did its job quite well, but still had VGA and DVI connections. To double as a TV I needed one with HDMI. Since time had not stood still, I was looking for the monitor that could improve everything for (hopefully) the next decade.
I was surprised how much difference the MSI MAG251RX made compared to the Samsung. The color was much better and could see all sorts of details that didn't show up on the old monitor. Could see further in games and noticed that also in dark scenes. I didn't notice the difference 144 hz made (I don't get 240 hz very often) until I reset it to 60. Movies look completely different and can compete with the better TV screens.
Standard is largely plastic, but sturdy plastic. It is striking that the appearance at the front is very stylishly modest (no logo!), but the back has RGB and an esport logo. Well, tastes can differ, but if gaming is a hobby for you and not a sport, you get the feeling of someone hanging out in front of the TV all day in sportswear. For those who do not want that, placing the monitor against a wall can be a great solution.
I can't judge G-sync because of my 60 hz history. Control via the USB-b cable via PC is very convenient. Screen stops half an inch to the edge. 1080p may be a disadvantage for some, but at this format you won't see a difference and I don't have to hang an expensive PC on it, which can't handle 4k again next year.
This is a monitor that can't be significantly improved for a long time if you don't hang a powerhouse on it.
