Philips Sonicare Series 9900 HX9813/98 Blue

With this Philips toothbrush, I brush precisely and receive plenty of guidance during brushing. The toothbrush feels luxurious and helps me brush more consciously thanks to the pressure sensor, feedback, and app functions. If you are primarily looking for a simple toothbrush without extra features, this model is probably too comprehensive.

Smart and comfortable brushing During brushing, the toothbrush feels calm and controlled. The sonic technology cleans my teeth without the brush feeling unstable. I also like the pressure sensor. Different colors show me whether I am brushing too hard, too softly, or just right. This allows me to easily adjust my pressure while brushing. I notice that this makes me less likely to brush too hard on my teeth and gums. The toothbrush gives me clear feedback without me having to constantly interrupt my brushing motion.

Plenty of guidance during brushing The toothbrush helps me keep better track of my brushing routine. Through the smart functions and the accompanying app, I can see where I have already been and which areas still need attention. For example, I set the light ring so that it indicates during brushing whether I am brushing each part of my teeth long enough. After brushing, I view a mouth map on the display. On it, I can clearly see which areas I brushed well and where I can spend some extra time next time. The amount of feedback is something to keep in mind, though. I receive a lot of information and therefore have more settings and functions than with a standard electric toothbrush. That makes it less suitable if you just want to brush your teeth quickly and easily.

Accessories and design The toothbrush feels sturdy and luxurious. The modern design, the various brushing modes, and the included accessories make the package complete. I particularly like using the charging glass. After brushing, I place the toothbrush inside, so it sits neatly in the bathroom and charges immediately. I also find the rechargeable travel case handy. When I go away for the weekend, I take the toothbrush with me safely without having to put a separate charger in my bag. I also charge it in the case while traveling.

I had no idea this existed: a toothbrush that gives you feedback on how you brush. We can all brush our teeth, of course, but brushing properly? I find my teeth and fresh breath very important. Every time I visit the dentist, I have quite a bit of plaque, and I would really like that to change. So this toothbrush seemed perfect for me, because, among other things, it tells you if you’ve covered every spot. I’ve been using this electric toothbrush for a while now and am very satisfied. It’s a nice-looking toothbrush; the Sonic Blue color looks great in my bathroom, haha. But more importantly, of course, is the connection with the Sonicare app, which is truly the added value of this toothbrush compared to other electric toothbrushes! The app is really valuable, and I have been using it every time so far. The feedback is useful and interesting. After brushing, for example, you can see how long and how well you brushed, whether you applied too much pressure, or if you missed certain parts of your teeth. You get a clear overview of this in the app, with notifications such as needing to brush a bit longer in certain areas or pressing the brush less hard. As a result, after about two weeks, I now automatically pay a bit more attention to my brushing technique. At the same time, however, I wonder how long this feature will truly remain of added value. After all, at some point you know your pitfalls and start paying attention to them, it seems to me. Furthermore, the toothbrush itself apparently indicates when you need to replace the brush head, but I cannot yet judge how accurately it does this. The battery lasts about 1.5 to 2 weeks, and it is also nice that there is a battery indicator. In short, a nice and luxurious toothbrush that cleans well and has super handy extra functionalities that make it truly unique. If you actually use these features, I consider it an interesting upgrade compared to a standard electric toothbrush.

Since using this Sonicare, I’ve actually been less focused on settings and more on just brushing well. The brush feels powerful but not aggressive, and I barely need to apply any pressure to get my teeth clean. I notice that I can reach everywhere more easily, especially around the back molars. Afterwards, my teeth feel really smooth, even if I just brush for my normal two minutes.

What I also like is that the handle is quite slim and doesn't feel heavy. As a result, it fits comfortably in the hand, and I use it without thinking too much about it. The blue version looks nice, although you do see some toothpaste splatters on it quite easily. It certainly isn't cheap, but in terms of brushing feel and ease of use, I do notice a difference compared to simpler electric toothbrushes.
