How do I transfer data from my old to my new iPhone?

I want to start using my new iPhone as quickly as possible, but I first have to transfer the data from my old iPhone to the new one. There are 3 easy ways to transfer data. In this article, I'll explain how I transfer the data from my old phone to my new device step by step.

1. Transfer via Quick Start

Transfer Apple iPhone data via Quick Start
  • I turn on my new iPhone and make sure my old device has iOS 11 or later.
  • I place my old and new device next to each other and turn on Bluetooth on both devices. The Quick Start screen appears. After checking the Apple ID, I tap Continue.
  • A blue cloud appears on the screen of the new device. I take my old iPhone and hold it above this animation until I've positioned it in the middle of the screen.
  • My iPhone may ask for the old access code. I enter it into the new device if that's indeed the case.
  • I follow the instructions to set up Face ID or Touch ID on my new iPhone.
  • When I'm asked to, I enter the password of my Apple ID into the new device.
  • I can choose to recover apps, data, and settings from an iCloud backup. I choose this option so my new iPhone is set up exactly the same way my old iPhone was.

2. Transfer backup via iCloud
