SanDisk Extreme Pro Portable SSD 2TB

On my Apple Mac Studio I get a speed of about 830Mb/s and not the advertised 2,000Mb/s. This is because this speed is only achievable via USB 3.2 2x2. Thunderbolt 4 does not support this (yet). In my situation, the non Pro is just as fast.

For my training as a system and network administrator I needed extra storage space for my virtual machines: we do need a few per course and they require a lot of storage space. I tried to put these virtual machines on a 2TB internal HDD but these virtual machines became practically unresponsive. An external HDD also offered no solution, so I opted for this SSD from Sandisk, which is the solution. Fast virtual machines, more than enough storage space to start virtualizing seriously with domains set up and so on. As a bonus, virtual machines are also mobile and you can use them on your desktop, laptop, at school... Besides this, it also works very smoothly for gaming. Games between 50GB and 100GB of storage run smoothly. the loading times are slightly longer than they are on your internal SSD, but certainly not worth worrying about. Of course, in addition to these things, this SSD is also very suitable for other data storage.

When measured with disk speedtest, it is noticeable that the disk performs considerably less than the built-in SSD. The built-in SSD has a throughput speed of around 2 Gb/s, the Sandisk drive just manages 800 Mb/s. Considered returning, but according to Coolblue, the alternative, the Samsung T7 drive, would be a bit slower.
