To prevent flooding, use a water stop with your washing machine or dishwasher. You can connect this stop between the tap and the supply hose. If too much water enters the machine, the water stop blocks the water supply. This will prevent leaks. With a mechanical water stop, you can decide yourself how much water will flow through the water stop.
