How do I change the settings of the laptop lid in Windows 10?

You want to change the behavior of your laptop's lid. For example, you want your laptop to go into sleep mode when you close the lid. Or the opposite; nothing happens when you close the lid. Below, I'll tell you how to change these settings.

Step 1

Click the Windows logo at the bottom left of your screen.

Type 'power management' and click the option Change power scheme settings.

You'll now see an overview of the settings of the energy management plan of your laptop. Click the option Change advanced power settings. Those are the settings that currently apply to your laptop.

You now see an overview with the settings of your power scheme settings. Click the blue link with Change advanced power settings.

Step 2

A window will open with all the advanced settings for your schedule. Look for the option On/off buttons and lid and open it by pressing the plus.

Click the plus next to Actions when laptop lid is closed.

Step 3

You'll now see 2 options: Battery and Current. You select the behavior of your laptop's lid when you close it per option. You can choose from the following settings:

*Take no action

  • Sleep mode
  • Slumber mode
  • Exit

Choose your preferred option and click OK. When you close the lid of your laptop now, it'll perform the action you just set up.
