How do you prepare your smartphone for trade-in in the store?

You can only trade in your Apple iPhone, Samsung smartphone, or Android smartphone in our stores. Prepare well and transfer all your data or make a backup, reset the device, and charge it. In this article, you can read what you have to do when you want to upgrade your smartphone.

Prepare your smartphone

First, remove all accounts form your Apple iPhone or smartphone before you go to the store to trade in your old device. This way, our experts can help you faster.

Step 1: transfer all your data and reset the device

Transferring your data or making a backup differs per smartphone brand. If you already have your new smartphone, transfer your data right away. Are you buying or picking up your new device in the store? First make a backup and restore your data if you have your new smartphone. If you've done this, reset your smartphone. This way, you can set it to factory settings.

Transfer your data from your iPhone to your new smartphone. It's also important to disable 'Find My iPhone'. If you don't, we can't accept your iPhone and give you a trade-in value. Finally, log out of your iCloud account and any other possible accounts.

Transfer all data from your Samsung smartphone to your new smartphone. Make sure to remove all of your accounts as well.

The easiest way to transfer data is via your Google account. Do this beforehand. In addition, log out of your accounts so the trade-in runs smoothly.

Once you've transferred your data or made a backup and have reset the device, move on to the following steps:

  1. Remove a SIM card or memory card from your smartphone, if this applies.
  2. Is there a screen protector on the screen and a case around the smartphone? Remove them beforehand. We can only determine the condition of the smartphone if all accessories have been removed.
  3. Make sure to charge your old smartphone, so we can test it in the store.

Step 3: Hand in the device in the store

You're almost ready for a Smartphone Upgrade in the store. Bring your ID card, passport, or driver's license, otherwise we can't accept your device. In the store, the expert will check your device and determine the trade-in value. We'll transfer the trade-in value to your bank account within 3 working days. Do you choose CoolblueCredit? You'll receive this on your Coolblue account within 3 working days. Do you pay for your new smartphone in the store? We'll deduct the trade-in value right away.

Note: we regularly update our trade-in values. As a result, the trade-in value of the expert can differ from that on the website. The expert in the store determines the final trade-in value.
